She grabbed the phone receiver and hit zero on the keypad. The night desk clerk at the hotel answered, but he didn’t get a chance to say anything. “Call 9-1-1,” Meryl yelled. “I need help in here. I’m in room 323. Please, tell them to hurry!” She dropped the receiver and put her hand on Don’s cheek. “No! No! No! Don’t you leave me! I’m not ready. I’ll never be ready. The doctors will find a diagnosis soon. They just have to.”
