Downey grabbed Wendi by her bare feet and dragged her several hundred yards to an enormous bush, where he placed her under it and then tied her hands and feet so that she was wrapped around the base of it. Her stomach rubbing up against it’s base. After placing a piece of tape over her mouth again, he laughed and said, “By the time they find you, the only thing that will be left, will be your bones.”
Wendi struggled most of the night, trying to break free of the ropes that held her fast to the bush. Fortunately, the tape over her mouth was old and damp, so, she was able to work it off.
Then, a black widow spider gradually made it’s way across the ground towards Wendi’s face. Upon hearing a gang on motorcycles ride up and stop. She whispered, “Lord, what do I do? Do I try killing the spider and risk being abused by the motorcycle gang, or stay quiet and allow the spider to bite me.”
Meanwhile at the park, Sally walked up to Pastor Brown and asked, “Have you seen Wendi?”
The pastor answered, “Sorry, I’ve been watching the ankle biters most of the time.”
Puzzled, Sally questioned, “What’s an ankle biter?”
“You know, toddlers,” replied Pastor Brown, “This is the first chance I had to relax. Check by the row of Cedar trees, I saw her there, earlier.”
Sally had reached the row of trees, when she spotted a couple of boys down at the water’s edge and shouted, “Hey boys! You shouldn’t be that close to the edge, it’s deep there.”
One of the boy’s hollered back, “There is something shiny on the bottom and we’re trying to figure out what it is.”
Sally strolled down to the lake thinking, boys, what an imagination, it’s nothing. As she gazed in the water, she saw what looked a shiny round object resembling a silver hoop. Glancing up the grassy slope to the trees and noticed wheelchair tracks in the grass leading down to the lake. Then exclaimed, “Oh my gosh!” Then said to the boys, “Get the pastor and tell him to bring a rope.” Then she jumped in and swam to the bottom trying to bring up the wheelchair.
Out of breath, Sally popped her head out of the water and hollered, “Give me the end of the rope, fast.”
Pastor Brown stared in the water, trying to keep track of Sally and wondered, what in the world is she up to. Gradually, the wheelchair came to the surface, once on the grass, the pastor questioned, “Where is Wendi?” In five minutes, the park was swarming with emergency rescue workers. Several divers searched the bottom for the body and came up with nothing. Pastor Brown walked up to Don and said, “The only thing left to do is to drag the entire lake for her body.”
Don answered, “Thank you, I will let my wife know.” Don then spotted their Golden Retriever, named Buddy, chewing on a shoe. After retrieving it, he said excitedly, “Wendi was wearing these, when she left this morning.” Don patted Buddy on the back and said, “Go get the other shoe, boy.”
Don picked up Wendi’s other shoe and her Bible behind the tall, Cedar trees and said, “I may not know much about detective work, however, I do know when someone has kidnapped my daughter and is trying to cover their tracks.”
Back under the bush, as the Black Widow reached Wendi’s face, a snow-white cat came bounding in under the bush and accidentally trampled on the spider. She smiled and said, “My furry little hero, now if you could only get rid of those bikers and untie my binds I would treat you to a good fish dinner.” The cat brushed up against her face, then curled up on her hip and went to sleep.
As the sun began to drop below the horizon, one by one the bikers left, leaving Wendi alone in the cold darkness, tied underneath the huge bush. Shivering in the cold, she cried, ‘Lord’ am I going to die here, alone in the darkness?”
