“I will go to Him and be made whole.”

Based on Mark 5:21-34, this moving devotional makes real to us the

relationship between Jesus and a woman who had suffered for twelve years

from an unstoppable flow of blood. No doctor had been able to cure her,

yet she was completely healed as she reached out and humbly touched the

hem of Jesus’ garment.

Lonetha Jones, a volunteer outreach minister with Temple Care

Incorporate, lets us contemplate this woman who so much wanted to be

healed and who so wanted to be able to again live within the community

of people who were well. She is a woman who is embarrassed and ashamed

because she is unclean, but she is a woman who ultimately suffers less

from her physical condition than from her isolation.

In her loneliness, then, she is like each of us.

Jesus, like a parent consoling and comforting a suffering child, heals

this woman after she has approached him in humility and has haltingly

touched the hem of his garment. He turns and asks tenderly “Who touched

me?” as he feels the power go out of Him to heal her.

We too wish so to be touched by Him.

Lonetha Jones’ careful meditation is inspiration to all of us who wish

to increase our trust in the Lord Jesus Christ and grow in our Christian

faith.
