A Hunt for Better Days!

Bible of an Alligator is a timely sequel from Alphonso Taylor, author of Bible of an Owl (2006). This collection offers more poems from his life experiences. Alphonso takes an even intense-edgy and grittier approach about his upbringing of adolescence, self esteem, struggle, and spirituality in society. He faces education, religion, dating, prostitution, and war through the changes of an urban, young Black man. Bible of an Alligator showcases versatility that is evident with Alphonso Taylor's writing and depth of work in his sophomore masterpiece.

Book Excerpt

When Then Resume

WHEN I'm serious
I'm taking as a joke
THEN if I'm joking
I'm taking seriously
WHEN I open up to people
I'm usually treated badly
THEN if I'm looking strange and quiet to myself
I'm wrong because I'm so damn different
WHEN I'm not heard from in a long time
people think I don't fuck with them no more
THEN if they're constantly hearing from me
it’s like whatever, the hell with that man
WHEN I'm doing good on my grind and giving
I see faces with big ass smiles and their hands out
THEN if I'm down on my luck
No one brings me up and I'm opinionated as selfish
WHEN I'm ready to date
most ladies ain't interested and I'm thought of as a faggot
THEN if I finally have a girlfriend
everybody wants us, hating in our business, and want us to break up
WHEN I try to do business with muthafuckas
They want all the credit and fuck me over
THEN if I have my persona, every man for himself
I'ma sell-out, disloyal, and forgot where I've come from
WHEN I'm in the bad streets with strangers and friends
sometimes they show me a lot of love
THEN if I'm in good places with loved ones
we're beefing and holding grudges
WHEN I die
THEN I really hope no one cries, but be satisfied
WHEN I couldn't save the world THEN
