Dr. Eric Mansfield retired from public education after a twenty-five year career in rural Missouri schools. During that time he served as classroom teacher, educational consultant, building principal and then district superintendent of three different schools. Dr. Mansfield has also preached the Gospel for several years, filling in for absent ministers and performing marriages and funerals for friends and loved ones. Dr. Mansfield retired in part to spend more time in the native Ozark outdoors he so loves as well as pursue a career in writing. Rick, the name from his youth and that which he writes under, is a weekly columnist for the Summersville Beacon. Rick has several other writing projects in the works, including a treatise on public education titled Not On My Watch. In his younger life, Rick Mansfield was a logger and enjoyed bull riding and farming. He has worked as a security guard, truck driver, campground manager, canoe hostler, outdoor guide, and most recently events facilitator for a Grateful Dead tribute band. Rick now divides his time among writing, catching up on his reading, gardening and spending time with their “children” – dogs Big D, a sixty-six pound bluetick and their three miniature bluetick beagles, Huck, Dharma and Miss Daisy. Rick and Judy travel as time allows but always enjoy returning to their rural Reynolds County home.
