‘TURN NINE EXECUTE’ is a memoir of the actual humorous and serious incidents which occurred on the destroyer U.S.S. GOODRICH DDR - 831, during the period of 1952 through 1956. This is not a military document, but rather the recollections of the author, his shipmates, and several senior officers who preceded him, who actually experienced the events. It depicts some of the midshipmen training of the author, and covers operations areas of the ship from the home base in Newport, R.I., the North Atlantic, the Naval training base at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, in the Mediterranean and Red Sea with the Sixth Fleet, and to the Elbe River of North Germany.

Richard Max Bosshardt

RICHARD Max BOSSHARDT was born in Switzerland, is a dual US / Swiss citizen, and grew up in Swarthmore, PA. He earned Master’s degrees in electrical engineering at Cornell University, and an MBA at Casw - Western Reserve University. He served active duty as an officer and Chief Engineer on the destroyer USS Goodrich DDR– 831 from 1953 to 1956. On board he qualified as O.O.D. and Command Duty Officer. In his career he became expert at applying and starting up the electrical controls and drives for continuous steel and aluminum strip processing lines. He held positions of Marketing Director and General Manager for several US firms, and also spent 42 years in Switzerland in such positions for both US and SWISS corporations. He was married 49 years to his wife, JOAN, and they have four children, and nine grandchildren. He resides in Nevada County, CA.
