Stephen has deliberately omitted information about himself and the positions he has held in the church because he believes we need to focus on the message and not the deliverer of the message. We should be focused on the message because God is the decider of whom or what will deliver His message. For example: God used Jethro, a non-Israelite, to show Moses how to lead the Israelites; God used an animal to open Balaam’s eyes to his disobedience; God used part of a hand to deliver a message to Belshazzar. These form the basis for Stephen’s belief that the message he has tried to deliver is more important than who he is.
