A Call to the Youths of the World
The 2018 presidential elections in Cameroon resulted in the prospect of both a greater future and a worse one. When the opposition party MRC challenged the election results, it revealed a thirst among the citizens for freedom of speech, transparency, and the rule of fair law. And the debates between different parties before the Constitutional Court showed Cameroon’s potential as a future democratic nation. But the presidential election was set against the backdrop of war, threats, and the reemergence of the gruesome corpse of tribal ideologies.
As Cameroon prepares to celebrate Youth Day, Dongmo Dhyan Anand presents a manifesto to the young people of Cameroon that can be extended to youths worldwide: The time has come for the young to galvanize, to bring morality, democracy, celebration, and education to one’s country for the betterment of everyone’s lives.
Young lions, pay heed to my words. You must not depend on any foreign help. Nations, like individuals, must help themselves. This is real patriotism. Do not hate other races or nations; just understand that no individuals, no nation, can live detached from the community of others. Expansion, openness, and change are life. I thereby proclaim a new form of nationalism—not the abject nationalism that spreads hate and reclusion, but an expansionist nationalism. Stand up! Hold up! Advance!
