Grace Powers Fraioli was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Art Education and a Master of Science Degree +90 in Art from the College of New Rochelle, in New York. She has been a professional artist and visual arts teacher for over 40 years. Grace’s work is published in 500 Plates and Chargers, a 2008 Larks Books Publication. She enjoys traveling and spending time with her children and grandchildren, in New York and Arizona. This is her first book.

TRUNK TREASURE IN TUCSON
Growing up in Tucson, Arizona, I was inspired by the subtle beauty of the Sonoran Desert and surrounding mountains. My family lived in a neighborhood that at that time was close to the edge of town. As a young child, I loved exploring to see what I would find. In our backyard we had a structure that we called “the shed” that sat along the back wall of our yard. It was packed full of things such as crates, furniture, boxes, and antique trunks, the latter of which we were told by our parents we were not allowed to open. Naturally, my imagination went wild dreaming about what was inside! Could it be full of hidden treasures like gold and silver? Or fancy jewels in old containers? Maybe it was filled with old coins like pirates would find on a sunken ship? It wasn’t until after my parents were both deceased that the “forbidden” trunks were opened with all of us gathered around. The trunks were full of hundreds of letters that began a family journey of discovery…
