My earliest memory in this life is of drowning...I was two years old at the time. A precocious love of adventure was evidently already at work as I explored the confines of our small play area, for tiring of its sameness, I sought deeper water and perhaps the laughter of the men on the far side (of the river). The next moment I was adrift in a wonderful world of green hues, swirling buoyancy, and a bright window to the sky above. I felt no twinge of panic, only pleasant wonderment and a vague detachment, as if I were watching a spendid movie unfold before me...
