Tohnie Hynds grew up in the small town of Van Alstyne, Texas, about fifty miles north of Dallas. She received her B.A. degree from Austin College in Sherman, Texas, and Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. She resides in Sherman, Texas, where she and a partner have a law practice. She has been involved in numerous civic activities throughout her career including the local United Way and the local nonprofit Home Hospice.
