Book Details

Welcome to the afterlife world of Inside Donovan Grey! This new dark fantasy fiction series goes beyond what one might come to expect to find in a unique book series. Primarily aimed for an adult audience with its controversial themes this new series delivers a power packing punch to the gut as it surely does entertain. The first book,Inside Donovan Grey sets up the story premise quite neatly: Donovan Grey lives in the real world until an unforeseeable accident sends him into the world he created to form his afterlife travels. In this new realm he is reunited with his soulmate,Sheila Bryant,a woman he once had an affair with in his real world. The two are up against an evil demon named,Red Eyes and his army of flesh eating zombies. On board to help them to try and combat this war of monsters who plague a small town are the police, military and an old eccentric professor. Once this story has concluded both Donovan and Sheila are shoved into their next afterlife adventure. Book two: And I Created My World, takes a twisted dark turn. The demon,Red Eyes has returned but now has come back in the role of an antichrist. The story regenerates and recreates the whole beginning of biblical times as reformed through the thoughts of both Grey and Bryant. It isn't until the third chapter that both our spiritual heroes are introduced into a wicked futuristic society where once again their mission to destroy Red Eyes and his mechanical army of half human, half machine robot police force called,Penbots. Science fiction, horror and plenty of high powered action takes this fantasy on a wild, spin out of control development that is guaranteed to deliver shocks and thrills! Grey's Dreams and Nightmares: Book three lowers the dark fantasy element to indulge in a different type of horror/fiction adventure. This includes the meeting of past Hollywood celebrities, legendary rock musicians who are either portrayed as zombies, vampires or aliens from another world. This book also uses partial music lyrics to help narrate as well as incorporate some of the humor in the framework of this story. The final dream sequences parodies two very popular television shows: Gilligan's Island and The Adventures of Superman. Here also James Dean and Marilyn Monroe engage in a sexual love affair, the cast of I Love Lucy as blood thirsty vampires,Elvis recruited to be a vampire killer, over a dozen cameos of stars from both movies and music. A book that aims for a lighter side of a fantasy element while still maintaining a fast action packed thrill riding reading experience. Book Four: Inside Sheila Bryant is a part one epic fantasy adventure that places Donovan Grey and Sheila Bryant into a controversial love affair, romantic, hot and heavy sexual role playing game that right from the get go,goes horribly wrong. It is a novel that incorporates sex and horror into a well blended mixture. It also delivers a more personal three dimensional character building of both Grey and Bryant. The fourth book injects humor, drama and the element of surprising as well as shocking horror. It takes its time in building its incredible love mixed with horror story. Checkout this incredibly, unique story device that doesn't disappoint. If anything it shows that author James D. Patalon is traveling a road that doesn't imitate other successful fiction/fantasy writers. He has undoubtedly paved his own road. He has not followed the masses. His work is completely his own and his signature writing style just seems to get better with each volume of Inside Donovan Grey books that he puts out. Book Excerpt

An excerpt from Grey's Dreams and Nightmares: Inside Donovan Grey Book 3: CHAPTER TWO "LOOSEEE...!" Donovan held Sheila tight. She had weak knees and her body was trembling." What did you see?" He asked concerned over her frightful looking state. Trying to catch her breath, she was hyperventilating."I Love Lucy...! Lucy Ricardo...dead! Donovan...Lucy is dead!" "Sheila get ahold of yourself, what the hell are you trying to tell me?!" He ushered her to the couch,he helped her take a seat. Holding her hands in his he sat down alongside of her. "Get ahold of yourself. Take some deep breaths. Tell me again what you saw..." Sheila was finally able to calm herself, looking straight into his eyes."Donovan...Our first world. The t.v. series,I Love Lucy...this building, this room, the woman under the covers, all of this,it's the set of that particular show! Lucy is dead in the bedroom under the covers of the bed! We got to get out of here!" Donovan began reexamining the room they were both trapped in,suddenly full recognition registered in his thoughts of past remembrances."Oh my god." Getting up from his seat,he ventured to the window on the wall adjacent to the door they both had originally entered through. Removing the white curtain he peered outside. Just a few short hours and the sun would be setting. He wondered what was going to transpire after the sun went down? That inner voice he had heard earlier had he and Sheila been in actuality summoned here? Had their minds been controlled by an outside force? Someone or something had deliberately led them to this building and this room. Why? Why had they suddenly been trapped like flies in a spider's web? This was not good, not good at all! "The backdoor! C'mon!" He shouted yanking her off the couch and then both of them running through the swinging door into the kitchen. Grabbing one of the two chairs sitting in front of the small round table,he lifted it,holding the four legs out and with it he raced up on the backdoor, swinging with his might,he whacked the chair up against the glass window! Neither the chair nor the window broke. He went for the door a second, then third time but the chair and the door remained in tact. "What the hell!" He exclaimed in total frustration. Lowering the chair back onto the floor he turned his head looking back at Sheila. "This is definitely not good." "You think?!" She said in a sarcastic voice with deep seated aggravation. "What do we do now?" "The only choice I see left for us is to keep our eyes open until an escape presents itself to us!" Donovan announced looking up at her. A knock on the door by opportunity, how fantastic did that sound! With the hours ticking fast until the sun descended, their fate undetermined, there seemed no other way out. They both exited the kitchen back into the living room. They felt like lambs waiting for the moment of slaughter. Sheila sat back down on the long couch,Donovan began pacing back and forth behind it. They both wondered what the night was going to bring. They wondered how the dead woman in the bedroom figured in all of this. There was a antique wall clock over the mantle above the fireplace. The hour was a quarter past four in the afternoon. The room they were in held a dead, cold nerve wrecking silence. Their thoughts danced in frantic modes. They both had a hard time focusing on how they would escape and if they would escape. When the clock hit six,the dark had replaced the light from outside. The knob on the front door turned, both Donovan and Sheila jumped startled. The door swung open and a tall, handsome, olive complexion,Cuban in a black dress suit and tie walked into the room. Immediately they recognized him! "Looseee...I'm home!" He announced. He then showed a white, sharp fanged wide smile when his eyes saw the two sitting on the couch. "Ohhh we have guest! Oh how nice." He said in a broken English accent. Coming out from the bedroom, the woman that had been under the covers. Her hair a fire red,her complexion a pale white, her lips a blood red,she wore an almost see through white nightgown, her shape,a slender curve. "Ohh Ricky darling, you're home!" She rushed upon him, their arms enfolding around one another as they exchanged a passionate kissing. With the door open,Donovan nudged Sheila, they both got up from their sitting and bolted towards the door. Before they could make their hasty escape, the door slammed closed, and twisting the knob,it was locked and they turned looking at the couple standing in front of them. "Nice try. Go back and sit down!" The red haired woman commanded. They both moved back to the couch and hesitantly sat down while still eyeing the couple behind them. "Honey take a load off your feet! Sit down, have a smoke, keep our guests entertained. I'm going to call the Mertz and invite them over for dinner." She said, her smile showing her sharp white fangs as she trotted over to the desk, lifting the phone receiver and her finger spinning the rotary dial. The phone over her ear,"Ethel? We have dinner tonight!...Yes its fresh. You and Fred hurry up and come upstairs!" She then hung the phone back onto its stand. Ricky took his seat in the black chair adjacent to the couch. "Excuse me young man,can you pass me the pack of cigarettes on the table?" Donovan slid the pack across the wooden coffee table towards him. "Why thank you!" He answered, packing the pack in the palm of his opened hand. Unwrapping them,he withdrew a cigarette, placed it between his lips, then he offered the open pack to both Donovan and Sheila. They both shook their heads no. "Honey,I'm going to go get dressed."Lucy announced to Ricky, then looking at Donovan who had turned his head back. "Would you like to join me and watch me get undressed?" Donovan's eyes widened and he shook his head no. "Now dear,no sampling dinner before the Mertz arrive!" Ricky barked and then she disappeared behind the brick wall that led into the bedroom. Both Donovan and Sheila sank heart sick into their cushioned chair. They exchanged quick worried glances at one another, then their eyes shifted back to the Cuban sitting in the black chair inhaling and exhaling his cigarette between his two fingers. "So sorry, you'll have to excuse Loosee. It's been so long since we had fresh blood in this apartment. You know they say patience is a true virtue." He said smiling while looking at the both of them. His cold glassy, sharp red eyes penetrated deep into their fear frozen bodies. Donovan mustering a small amount of nerve, gestured for a cigarette out of the pack that laid on the lap of Ricky. The Cuban lifted the pack off of his lap and threw it on the coffee table where it slid directly in front of where Donovan was sitting. It had been two whole worlds since he had smoked a cigarette. He shook a single cigarette up from the square pack, pulled it out and placed it between his quivering lips. Ricky leaned forward, striking a single, ripped match from the book, sliding it on the narrow, grainy black strip on the back of the pack,it sparked,a small circular flame consumed its head, cuffing one hand around the dancing fire,Ricky held the match steady,Donovan leaned forward lighting his cigarette. With his cigarette lit,Ricky shook the fire out and then tossed the now burnt, black head, with a small, string of white smoke smoldering up,into the clear glass ashtray on the coffee table. Donovan inhaled, coughing before blowing the smoke up from his lungs out of his mouth into the cold air that encased the entire room that they all occupied. Sheila sat almost motionless. She was too afraid to make any type of sudden move. Several minutes passed before Lucy, dressed in a black and white blouse, black slacks and black flats, her red hair wrapped in a tiny ball in the back of her head, came walking out from the bedroom."My God where are the Metz!" She exclaimed as she moved past the back of the long sofa couch. "Now dear, you know how Ethel is. She wants to look just right." Ricky answered. "I never take this long when we are having dinner in their apartment!" "Huh! No dear, you take twice the amount of time getting ready just to go downstairs into their apartment!" Ricky stated with a flare of sarcastic criticism. "I do not!" She shouted back in protest, stomping her one foot hard on the floor. After her foot hit the floor the front doorbell buzzed. She hurried to the door, opening it a heavy set, gray balding haired man dressed in a white, button down shirt, black tie, gray pants that rode up over his fat stomach, almost as though he were being eaten by his own pants, and hard black shoes came first through the door. Following just two steps behind was an older, blonde, curly haired woman dressed in a flowery patterned dress that rested inches below her knees, around her fair complexion neck a string of white pearls,on her feet, flat brown sandals. They were both smiling as they exchanged greetings with the Ricardos. The moment their eyes fell on the two sitting on the couch, their individual smiling enlarged, their fangs being revealed, their eyes transformed from brown to a sharp, glowing blood red that seemed to shine with a twinkling sparkle. "Ohhh boy! Fresh blood!" The old man shouted while he clapped his palms together and hurried up behind the couch, saliva dripping out from the corner of his mouth. "Fred!" The older woman shouted in a scorning voice."Can't you wait until the meal is properly prepared, divided and then ready to eat?" "Honey bunch, you know how long its been since we had fresh blood in this apartment?! I'm past hungry! Let's rip their throats open now!" Fred said in his rough, deep froggy voice as his cold hands fell on the shoulders of Sheila. She screamed, jumped out of her seat in a severe panic, her face turning to look at the old fat man trying to snag ahold of her fast moving out from his reach. Donovan jumped out of his seat, grabbing Sheila, they both stood hugging each other between the small space of the couch and coffee table. Sheila began crying, burying her face into the shoulders of Donovan who just held her as close and tight up against his own body. This was totally insane! They were both going to be eaten alive by the casts of I Love Lucy! "Now everyone just wait!" Lucy barked. "We have the whole night. They both have enough blood for all of us! Whatever happen to us playing with our food before we consume? We can't break tradition!" "The hell with tradition! I'm hungry now!" Fred shouted back his eyes never leaving Sheila. "No Fred,Lucy is right!" Ricky injected into the conversation. "The women can have the man,we'll take the pretty blonde." In that moment,Lucy came up on the two holding one another. Her strength was like a steel vice as she broke them apart. Sheila fell backwards on the floor in a loud thud. Donovan quickly went forward to reach out to her,but he was pulled back by Lucy and a short second later Ethel wrapped her arms around him,the hold was so tight that he couldn't break free. The two women had him in a tight embracing, they began dragging him out from his spot. He struggled relentlessly, moving his shoulders, twisting his body, kicking his legs up as they manhandled him out of the living room, around the corner brick wall and into the bedroom. Sheila then heard the loud bang of a door being slammed shut!
