Raising Our Voices demonstrates how League members advocated for change during six decades of tremendous upheaval. Picking up where Avis Carlson's early history of the St. Louis League, The First 40 Years, left off, it recounts the League's participation in controversial local, state, and national issues such as desegregation, passage of the Equal Rights Amendment, election and campaign finance reform, and attempts at voter suppression. The book chronicles by decade the everyday work of the League to improve the St. Louis community and protect the rights of its citizens.

In addition, more than 20 members who made a difference through the years are profiled to honor their tremendous contributions to the League. Raising Our Voices is not only an essential read for League members, but an important resource for the entire St. Louis area that will inspire women’s history buffs from coast to coast.
