Did You Know.....?

A "must read" for parents and teachers who are concerned about our current educational policies and how they affects our youngest students. Politics Aside supports the fight for dynamic education and authentic assessment in the early grades, and may help us "push politics aside" and make room for classrooms that feed our children's minds and hearts.

Book Excerpt

While children have always brought their stress into their classrooms, prior to score-driven school reforms, elementary schools were able to meet this stress with a more neutral, less pressured environment where children could feel some relief from the stressors that they carried. Currently, higher levels of anxiety, fear and conflict live within this school community of teachers and young children, where once a sense of security and well-being had prevailed. This debilitating loss of well-being within the school community is politically driven. It is a loss that many young learners cannot recover from. It is a loss sustained in the name of score–driven school reform.
