Book Details

NEVER-MORE is a brilliant study of a woman's suicide as seen through the eyes of those most intimate to her - her husband and her (3) animals. From the very first lines, the reader is immersed in the universe of this woman's mental health as she confronts and struggles with its disintegration. With a descriptively simple syntax and unadorned wording reminiscent of Emily Dickinson, Chrissy allows the reader to understand this mental and physical agony, and to empathize with that complex of emotions that yearn for a release of this solitary confinement. NEVER-MORE is a work of power, poignancy, and utter originality. - JUDITH ROSE RN

Book Excerpt

"Sunny James. He lies thinking where did my human go? My human who I remember, so tenderly and lovingly. Who laid with me, cared for me as I had laid in my crate for three months after my back surgery. Where is my human who taught me all I know? My commands, my tricks, 'target' a favorite game of mine - touch her soft hand with my nose as I jump up to her and get my treat. Who taught me to catch, just like a professional, I never missed a throw! Where is my human? My human, who loved me like no other. Where is she? I hear her crying out in so much pain. I run to her side lay my head in her lap. I gaze soulfully into her sad eyes. I kiss each tear drop away. I love my human so much; it hurts me to see her this way. Now she slowly walks away and climbs the stairs. Looking back at me and saying 'Sunny James, be my good boy and guard the house.' I just don't understand. My place is by her side when she is in this much pain. Yet I stay, and will guard the house like I was asked to do. The last words my beautiful human said to me were 'I love you Sunny James like no other! I will miss you my most beautiful Sunny James.' "
