Book Excerpt

What do coaches do & expect?

Coaches expect athletes to show up for workouts, have a good attitude, maintain great grades, have a desire to learn, work to the best of their ability, & help coaches develop the organization. Coaches expect parents to be supportive of athletes, coaches, & the organization.

What do swimmers do & expect?

Swimmers expect challenging comprehensive workouts daily. They expect educated & experienced coaches. Swimmers expect freedom to train, to compete, & progress. Swimmers expect a safe & cordial training environment. Swimmers expect discipline that is fair, consistent, & appropriate. Swimmers expect two-way relational communication with the coach.

What do parents do & expect?

Parents should be positive supporting training & schedules. Parents must unconditionally love their swimmer & the sport. Parents go to meets in miserable conditions for long hours. Parents arrange travel schedules. Parents must support the coaches, the organization, & fund raise. Parents are there through thick & thin, good & bad, witnessing defeat by one one-thousandth of a second driving home in the heavy silence of an athlete’s despair.

Find out how they do this!
