Book Details

Are you prepared for that all-important job interview?

Whether you are a high school student, a young person just out of college, or someone who is hitting the job market for the first time (or the hundredth), Eyes on the Prize: A Step-by-Step Approach to Winning the Job shows you how to find the job you want and how to make it through the hiring process successfully.

From the moment you walk in the door of a business, employers are sizing you up - checking out your appearance, your attitude, your skills, your level of interest, even your knowledge about their business. Eyes on the Prize takes you step-by-step through the entire process: from finding those employers with whom you may wish to work to the essentials of creating an effective resume, writing cover letters, filling out a job application, and engaging in the interview.

You'll learn:

* Why your appearance can make a difference

* How to make a cold call

* Why it's not what the company can do for you, but what you can do for the company

* What you should bring with you on an interview

* How to engage in salary negotiations

Book Excerpt

EYES ON THE PRIZE means that, through your trials and tribulations in search for 21st century jobs, never lose sight of the position you want. Prepare and develop a plan of action. Claim it and you will win it! To boldly go where no woman or man has gone before—I am not talking about “Star-Trek” or “The Next Generation,” but the idea is similar.

Winning the job is preparing oneself to succeed in the labor force, by having a positive attitude, assertiveness, persistence, patience, using your strengths, improving your weakness, researching the job/company, using job search resources, wearing the appropriate dress attire, completing the job application neatly/accurately, writing effective cover letter/resume, knowing how to sell yourself, sending a thank-you letter, and negotiating your salary. All of these steps equal guaranteed success.
