Book Excerpt

The existence of such monsters and creatures is a matter of personal interpretation and belief. For some, they may represent allegorical truths or manifestations of natural phenomena, while for others, they may embody spiritual or supernatural forces. Ultimately, the beauty of folklore lies in its ability to inspire wonder, curiosity, and introspection. Whether these monsters are actual entities or imaginative creations, they continue to captivate and intrigue generations of storytellers, listeners, and readers alike. Let’s get started.

Michigan may be the best-known state for dogman but, sightings of this terrifying cross between a creature with a human body and canine type head are becoming more popular around many areas of North Carolina. Reports of sightings range from the mountains to the coastal swamps, with at least one report in the same county as the state capital, Raleigh, Wake County.

Witnesses describe the Dogman as standing over seven feet tall, with piercing red or yellow eyes and a terrifying howl that echoes through the night. These accounts typically occur in remote, wooded areas, adding to the creature's mystique and elusiveness. Witnesses frequently report feelings of intense dread and unease upon encountering the Dogman, further cementing its reputation as a harbinger of fear.

It appears the first sightings in North Carolina started in the early 1800s and are traced back to what was called a “Demon Dog”. The name may be slightly different, but when you look at the descriptions from the experiencers, you quickly realize they are what we now call a dogman.
