The Transcendent Lyricism of Everyday Life

What is poetry? Sometimes it seems too challenging to comprehend—metaphors and language that you have to sit down and wrestle with. Joyful Bliss & Broken Hearts is a different style of poetry: accessible, real, relatable. Poet Phyllis Marie Delia throws open a window to the grace and the ache of everyday life, illuminating a diverse range of topics including family, spirituality, birds, lazy days, innocence, friendship, aging, and more. Over fifty years of life lived with richness and depth have given her a broad perspective on the bright flame of joy, the crush of life’s disappointments, and the risks of cynicism and despair that come from shattered love. No matter who you are or what your journey has been, you’ll find resonance, inspiration, and communion in this collection of reflections from the heart.

Book Excerpt

Here are some excerpts from poems in the book.....
RENDEZVOUS IN THE NIGHT...
Often you greet me in my dreams
Amidst shadows in the night
I’m overcome by rapture as
You appear before my sight
Speechless for a moment
I know not what to do
Your tender smile beckons me
And I reach my arms to you
FIND STRENGTH...
The venture to contentment
Is a hard one to travel
When the journey is long
And you’re about to unravel
Fatigue and impatience
Build up deep inside
When the endless tunnel
Appears dark, cold and wide
COTTON CANDY COMFORT...
My tears flowed o’er photos
Of when I was young
Not aware how simple life was
When Mama wasn’t gone
That was the first time
Since her heart gave way
Cotton candy filled the room
And sent sweet comfort that day
This aroma appears clearly
When she’s felt within my midst
Tho’ I don’t know why this happens
It brings a smile on my lips
A floral tree for her I planted
In May, blooms full and thick
Fluffy pink beauty resembles
Cotton candy on a stick
