Book Details

From a Belgian childhood under Nazi occupation, to a Cambodia ravaged by war and the bloody reign of the Khmer Rouge, the author has been travelling to places where few tourists were going at the time: Hanoi and Beijing emerging from war or radical Maoism, Cuba after the collapse of the USSR, Nepal abandoning an old monarchy for radical communism or a divided Germany haunted by the criminal follies of Hitler and the Holocaust. The KGB tried to recruit him. He has lived in Belgium, New York, Phnom Penh and today Bangkok.
