Book Details

The world doesn’t need another dog training book, but it sure could use Imp, The ImPerfect Pup: Lessons On Being Good Enough, a lighthearted look at the serious matter of a person’s Perfectionism screwing-up the dog. It is estimated that only one out of every one hundred dogs born will ever find a permanent home. Of those relinquished, “bad behavior” is identified as the primary problem. I believe overreaching expectations are the actual culprit. Imp, The ImPerfect Pup pairs realistic goals with sustainable training and behavioral tools in a manner that’s as entertaining as it is instructive. Vignettes from thirty-six years of counseling rich and famous and everyday dog parents, plus tales of my own colorful menagerie, illustrate what’s possible without breaking a sweat. Imp’s point of view is always presented. From the shiny new puppy to a weathered elder who’s been around the block, Imp, The ImPerfect Pup celebrates dogs as they actually are to make your home Imp’s last. I think Good Enough is a Perfect goal. Jody Rosengarten TheBarkStopsHere@aol.com (203) 372-BARK

About the Author

Jody Rosengarten

I have been a Dog Trainer Behaviorist since 1980 and am the owner/operator of The Bark Stops Here, a multifaceted practice specializing in problem-solving and the rehabilitation of rescued dogs. In addition to several house calls daily, I work with animal rescue groups and am on the staff of the Southport Veterinary Center in Fairfield, CT, where I see clients, teach group classes and facilitate Dog Days Workshops. What sets my work apart, I’m told, is that I empathize with dogs and people equally. This enables me to help each better understand the other and craft compassionate compromises that endure. Clients commonly call me “intuitive” or a dog “psychic.” Though I don’t promote myself as such for fear of sounding too “woo woo,” my hunches, backed by science and experience, usually prove true. My first book, Rover, Don’t Roll Over: A Compassionate Training Guide for Dogs and Their People was published in 2004 by Ten Speed Press and was on the cover of their marketing catalog. I am about to publish a new book, Imp, The ImPerfect Pup: Lessons On Being Good Enough. I have written for a number of periodicals, including a cover story for Greenwich Magazine. I completed a two-year stint on a phone-in radio show answering questions on dog training and behavior for WICC in Bridgeport, CT. One of these days I’ll finish writing Watch The Feet, a novel about a feisty dog trainer. Animals have been the focus of my life for all of my life. As a child, I stashed boxes of bugs and broken-winged baby birds beneath my bed. I lived and worked with elephants in Tanzania during my teens and spent a summer communicating with Washoe and her family of sign language-speaking chimpanzees. I ran a foundation that supported wolf causes for six years and traveled to Sri Lanka to work with Temple Monkeys. I live in Connecticut with two dogs and six parrots—all rescued. For fun, I make jewelry, play African drums and sing gospel. Jody Rosengarten TheBarkStopsHere.net (203) 372-BARK
