Tom Rigby was born in Somerville, a small suburb of Boston, Massachusetts. He is the oldest of six children. His Mother was of Italian extract and his father was Scottish. Tom graduated from Burlington High School, then a very small town just ten miles from Boston. Tom received his draft notice shortly after completing High School. He enlisted in the US Navy in September 1961, rather than end up in the Army. Tom tested high in technical aptitudes during boot camp, and was selected for heavy ordinance and computerized weapons and heavy artillery. Tom went on to further advanced training while in the Navy, and wound up being posted to the USS Canberra, a guided missile warship, initially based in Norfolk, VA. After being released from Active duty in January 1966. Tom returned to Boston, largely because his mother wanted him home after serving in the Cuban Blockade and Vietnam war. Tom’s return to civilian life led him to work in the Aerospace and computer industry, largely because of his experience and education gained while serving in the military. Tom put himself through college on the GI Bill, and attended the University of Massachusetts, receiving degrees in Electronic Engineering. Tom married in 1966, and divorced ten years later, and raised his then 7-year-old daughter as a single dad until she was a junior in college. Tom worked in the High Technology Electronics business until 2003, at which time he retired from it to pursue other interests. Tom has always enjoyed writing, and has carried his military experiences with him for over 50 years.
