Book Details

Kathy Akers knew that her employment as a staff nurse at Hope Valley would be short term. She had no desire to work with alcoholics and addicts, but she needed a job—immediately. Twenty-six years later, Kathy is still at Hope Valley, Inc., inspired by the selfless and tireless dedication of its founders, Bryant and Marion Bivins, who devoted their lives to helping those suffering from addiction. Hope Valley is the true story of one of the most successful treatment facilities for alcohol and substance abuse in the state of North Carolina—and across the nation. Since 1968, the facility has been offering affordable and compassionate treatment programs to men and women, and its recovery curriculum has been adopted by facilities in North Carolina and other states. But as successful as Hope Valley’s programs have been, it was the innate goodness and determination of Bryant and Marion Bivins that made the facility a success and helped over 10,000 people. This book is a loving tribute to the couple and to the inspiration they provided that continues to fuel their dream today.
