Keith Swainson’s book, “Heresy for Christians,” belongs in the company of books that reorient our theological point of view and the substance and attitude of faith. “Heresy” rightfully and faithfully belongs in the company of revolutionary books such as “Honest to God,” by John A.T. Robinson; “The Shaking of the Foundations,” by Paul Tillich; and “The Case for Christ,” by Lee Strobel. What if pious Christians have misinterpreted scripture, and, therefore, misunderstood the nature and purpose of Christ? Swainson considers the essence of scripture meticulously and scrupulously, and he concludes that the “Second Coming” of Christ has already taken place. Also, Swainson equates God and Jesus. Indisputably, Jesus is God in the flesh. Every footstep leads God inexorably toward crucifixion. Swainson’s readers will discover nothing less than the truth about a moment in time when God’s divinity collides with humanity’s depravity. This book is essential reading for churchgoers, lay leaders, and theologians alike. .................................................. A thought provoking book that makes us take another look at what we believe about the Second Coming of Jesus. I found the book to be well researched and detailed but still easy to follow and read as a fairly new Christian. No matter if you agree with the author’s conclusion or not, it is well worth reading and it will make you think twice at what the 3 major religions, (Islam, Judaism and Christianity) really say about Jesus. Very interesting, thought provoking, and well researched. I especially liked the comparison of similarities between the 3 monotheistic religions. The assertion that there is no more second coming, but that the kingdom of God already came and is here is both radical and believable at the same time. ......................................................................................... I found the book to be an intriguing mix of Old Testament prophecies, Quoran references, and New Testament declarations, woven into a compelling argument that challenges key church doctrine. If Mr. Swainson is correct in his assertions, the long-awaited second coming of Jesus has already occurred and the new kingdom is already here. Swainson proposes, and backs up with numerous text references, that the Holy Spirit is God's kingdom on earth. The book travels down unexpected paths and provides new insights into old questions. I enjoyed the read, continuously testing and accepting or rejecting the author's arguments, always impressed by the depth of study and logic that went into building the case. I often find myself wondering, what if he's right? Cody …................................................................................................................
I don't agree with the all of the author's assertions in this book, but I applaud his journey in theological discourse. Swainson's ideas certainly would be considered 'heresy' by many in mainstream evangelical Christian culture, but Christians have disagreed on ideology, behaviour, and traditions for centuries. A fascinating and theologically challenging read. C. Architect…
