Book Details

My grandfather, Booker T. Washington wrote “The Negro boy and girl should have an opportunity to learn something in school about his own race.” In agreement with this statement, I am ensuring children across the world can read about his life and legacy.

Book Excerpt

Momma talks daddy into letting me go to school with the other children after I work for a few hours in the salt mine. I run home to tell momma about my day at school. “The other boys have hats and I don’t.” She replies, “Booker, we don’t have the money for a store bought hat.” On a happier note, I told momma, when the teacher asked for my name, I told him Booker-Booker Washington. Momma replies, “I gave you the name Booker Taliaferro.”
