A Few Words From The Author

GRAMMAR GREMLINS is a brief review book for adults who have been out of school quite a while and just need to refresh their memories. GRAMMAR GREMLINS is composed of many of the most common mistakes made by writers and speakers around us. NOTE: INSTRUCTORS OF SPECIALIZED WRITING SUCH AS COMPANY LETTERS, BROCHURES,BOOKLETS, ADVERTISING, ETC. WILL FIND THIS REVIEW A GREAT INTRODUCTION TO A SEMINAR OR CLASS, AND THE LOW WHOLESALE COST WOULD MAKE IT A NICE ADDITION TO THE WRITING PACKET.

Book Excerpt

Some little devils keep sneaking into our writing and speaking, and what we intend to say comes out meaning something different. If you are a writer or speaker, perhaps you need a little creative reminder of how to say what you mean. This little review book consists of errors from newspapers, magazines, television, movies, and other forms of communication. Best of all, each example is corrected and explained in brief (even amusing) detail so that you can "clean up your language" efficiently and painlessly. If writing or speaking is part of your job, spend about thirty minutes with this little book and you're guaranteed a few chuckles as well as a creative reminder that language skills can improve with a jump start once in a while!

About the Author

Jan Spurgeon

Teaching English "Language Arts" to teenagers for many years was a constant reminder that people don't improve their skills in any area until they decide to practice. Teaching adults how to perfect their writing in order to have it published is a whole different ball game -- FOCUS is the purpose and TIME is the main motivator. There is no time or necessity for study of a grammar book; thus was born my brief exercises based on common mistakes in language and eventually the book GRAMMAR GREMLINS: A Little Blue Book Of Review. Although it works well for an individual, it can be a lot of fun for a group of writers, who can share examples of "gremlins" from their own life experiences.
