Best Team In Steelers History?

This is the story of the 1976 Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers of the ‘70s were a legendary NFL dynasty that won four Super Bowl titles. The 1976 squad was not one of them. However, many of the Steelers, including owner Art Rooney, felt that the best team of the dynasty was the 1976 team. Why? One of the biggest reasons was their incredible defense. The Steelers were 1-4 after their first 5 games and lost starting quarterback Terry Bradshaw to injury for several games and had to be replaced by rookie Mike Kruczek. Knowing that another loss would cripple their playoff hopes, the Steel Curtain defense stepped up like no unit in the history of the NFL. During the last 9 games of the season, the Steelers allowed only 28 points, all of which were victories. No team in the “modern” NFL can even come close to numbers like that. Also, with the passing game limited due to injuries, the running game also stepped up. Behind the “Ground Crew” offensive line, running backs Franco Harris and Rocky Bleier rushed for over 1000 yards, only the second pair of teammates to ever do so in a 14-game season. There were many moments and thrills during this remarkable season, along with an abundance of legendary superstars that made the Steelers the dynasty that they truly were. This book takes you back to the time when perseverance, determination, and tenacity led the Steelers one step from having a chance at becoming the only team to win three consecutive Super Bowls.
