For years I wanted to write the story of the abuse that my father suffered at the hands of his father, but he was always a little concerned that he may offend some family members with the truth of his terrible story. Finally, at the age of 86 and with the encouragement of his living siblings, he told the whole story of how as a child, he had been broken physically, emotionally and mentally and how that abuse led him into a life of crime. He told of the miraculous way that he found Christ and how he had to serve prison time when he paid restitution. This story is truly amazing. God in his loving kindness can fix and restore, even a broken boy.

Dusk was settling in, and still he cranked and hollered. I pulled the levers, and he ranted and raved at me. That scenario was repeated again and again and again. After an hour and a half or so, it was getting dark and I was a bundle of raw nerves, a shivering wreck, but I dared not cry or even move unless ordered to do so. According to Dad, I never did any thing right, so I figured that was reason enough to want to kill me, his crazy son. After what seemed like an eternity of listening to him rage, he came at me, wildly swinging the crank at me, cursing and screaming so violently that I thought surely he was going to kill me this time! I remember running for my life around and around that tractor with Dad in hot pursuit, swinging that crank in his hand and screaming irrationally at me!
