Book Details

Sarah begins life in Athens, Greece. She is an extremely bright child who has episodes talking with ghosts. She feels trapped. Her mother is borderline narcissistic, and her father is an anti-social recluse. Sarah’s uncle invites the family to move to Kansas, where he works at an insane asylum. Sarah is infatuated with a new bridge near the asylum cemetery where she mingles with trapped ghosts. Fear and pandemonium invade the community. While at the asylum testing for her sanity, a male nurse sexually assaults her. She stabs him repeatedly with a sharpened yellow pencil. He quickly bleeds to death. Without any evidence of her sanity, and to avoid institutional embarrassment, Sarah is now incarcerated herself. Her father dies soon after, and her mother commits suicide.
