A Career in Conservation Law Enforcement

Retired Connecticut State Park Ranger and Conservation Police Officer Eric Johnson’s career of over 20 years is outlined in From Park Ranger to Conservation Police Officer. The “war stories” included here tell a little of what it is like to work in recreation and conservation law enforcement in rural Connecticut; from arresting subjects with gun drawn, to stolen vehicle arrests and jacklighting arrests, to dealing with drunken fishermen who fished with rocks. Also included are observations of the troubling problem of drug addiction, which even conservation police officers encounter while on patrol. The story of a three-day search for a missing person in the remote woods of Connecticut is shared here as well. Eric’s path to his career and his early days as an officer are also chronicled. Thoughts on the difficult merger of State Park Rangers with Game Wardens in Connecticut in the 1990s are discussed as well. Eric’s respect for the fields of recreation and conservation law enforcement is evident in these pages. To order a copy of this book, please contact Eric at etjohnson641@gmail.com
