Terry Beckstrom is a nonverbal communication and behavioral profiling expert, who spent 25 years with the U.S. Department of Justice (DEA) as a special agent investigating international criminal organizations. Terry has trained thousands of individuals and groups domestically and internationally in the art of people reading. Terry graduated from the University of South Carolina-Columbia, attended graduate school at Florida International University, and holds certificates in Executive Leadership and Advanced Negotiations from Cornell University and the Harvard Negotiation Institute at Harvard Law School respectively. Terry is the author of two acclaimed books, Livesafe, A Practical Guide to Personal and Family Security and Spoken Silently, The Art and Practice of Reading People. Terry is the principal of The Beckstrom Group, LLC, based out of Raleigh, North Carolina.
Terry Beckstrom has been referred to as ‘one of the country’s top body language gurus’ because of his unique ability to decipher and clearly explain the silent language of nonverbal communication.
The understanding of the impact of human emotions, the capacity to read those emotions, and our ability to nonverbally message others proactively are what Terry refers to as ‘superpowers.'
‘We are in a communication crisis in this country, and around the world, and we are witnessing the systematic destruction of the fundamentals of human interaction,' according to Terry. There is a breakdown occurring, and it is affecting relationships in every aspect of our society, in our business and personal lives. Those who recognize the breakdown and take action in their lives to ‘avert’ the crisis, will be in a definite position of advantage. ‘We are talking about reading people, which in the overall scheme of life is as important if not more so than one’s ability to read words,’ according to Terry.
If you are walking around with blinders on you are going to miss a lot of essential communication cues, and there will be consequences. You may miss opportunities to communicate effectively with your spouse or child; you may lose opportunities to develop friendships or lose business opportunities that could mean the difference between success and failure. ‘To say that understanding body language and making positive first impressions are important, is an understatement of epic proportions,' according to Terry.
First Impressions takes you on a fascinating journey into the world of human emotions as we examine the profound impact of our initial interactions with others.
