Jim and his wife Karen have been married over 40 years. They started out with not much more than the clothes on their back and the bills in the mail. He often says “I can’t tell you how many times I’ve thought ‘If I only knew then what I know now.’ I wanted to do something for couples starting out on their life’s journey together so they can learn from my mistakes, as well as my accomplishments.” Born in New York City, Jim spent the first half of his childhood as a “city boy,” then his family moved to “the country” in upstate New York to the small Village of Washingtonville for the second half. Joining the U.S. Marine Corps after high school for a tour, then returning to civilian life he struggled without direction or a plan. He tells people “don’t ever think I was born with ‘silver spoons in my mouth’ or that I am some kind of rich guy trying to tell folks who are either struggling (or not) how to make it.” In those early years Jim tried working a number of different jobs for both union & non-union employers, and in both labor & management positions. He has certainly earned his Ph.D. from the college of hard knocks—and in his case the graduate program too! While meeting these challenges of life, and continuing an endless endeavor of formal education, one day, “the light came on and the bell rang.” Jim began working as a financial professional in 1988. He has spent over 30 years as a licensed insurance broker and investment advisor, as well as having been a Certified Financial Planner, Chartered Financial Consultant, and having earned a Fellowship with the Life Underwriters Training Council. Jim has also earned numerous investment awards from various firms throughout the United States. While working as a financial professional Jim has also volunteered as a first responder, firefighter, and Emergency Medical Technician, as well as a 911 dispatcher and an Emergency Manager for his local Office of Emergency Management. His training, experiences, and hard work in these two unique disciplines has honed his talents, skills and commitment to service to others. Financial Success for Newlyweds was written for individuals and couples looking for a single source for getting started on the right track, or for getting back onto the right track.
