Have you invested in your Eternal Retirement Home?
Where will you go when your earthly life ends? Where you will go depends on what you do now. Why? Because after death the only laws and ways that matter are God’s, and how well we tried to live by them. God owes us nothing, even if we believe in Him.
For almost all of my life I have feared death; not knowing what is on the other side, if there is one. Even after going through an out-of-body experience at the age of 8 and seeing Jesus, I still feared. Now a priest for God I worry about everyone else: will they make it to Heaven? God wants them there, and I want them there. But unfortunately, not all will make it.
To do something about it is the reason for this book. Using the metaphor, “Eternal Retirement”, and investing in it is a way of breaking open the discussion about it and to get people to start thinking about it. It is a way to get people on their way to Heaven, especially the worldly, who probably never gave it a thought. We know that we will not live on Earth forever, and we cannot assume or presume that God owes us anything. But when we look at God dying for us, it can be seen as God investing in us. We, on our part, must live lives that show Him a good return on His investment. Are we improving on the image of God that He has made us in? We invest in our eternal retirement with God by making ourselves better in Him, who already invested in us.
But how do we do that? This book helps us to do just that. It helps us to understand human existence, what we are, how we are, and how we think. Using simple techniques to help us understand ourselves and others, to understand why we do the wrongs we do, and then learn from them to better ourselves. Understanding the faith we got from God, carrying it on and teaching others is investing in ourselves. God may even initiate a mystical experience with you, as He did with St. John of the Cross and myself. But most of all, do not give up on yourself or others - remember what Jesus said, “the one that perseveres to the end will make it...” to Heaven. (Matt. 24:13)
