From disenfranchment to empowerment, poverty to prosperity, victim to victor: Dr. Curly’s workbooks help young people overcome adversity.

Curlane Jones-Brown, MD, affectionately known as “Dr. Curly,” had a tough childhood, but she defied the odds and rose to success. After her retirement from psychiatric medicine, she decided to share the concepts that turned her life around and prevented her from becoming yet another sad statistic. Dr. Curly identified six principles that she unwittingly used to survive an early life of poverty and powerlessness: S - Sane Mind: Achieving and maintaining a sane mind E - Education: Receiving and achieving a solid education N - Nutrition: Applying nutrition and health teachings S - Social Skills: Recognizing the importance of etiquette and social skills E - Economics and Entrepreneurship: Learning to handle financial realities S - Social Responsibility: Accepting responsibility for yourself, your family, your community, and your environment Dr. Curly’s S.E.N.S.E.S. Workbooks provide support to at-risk youth, showing them that they can rise above their circumstances if they use their S.E.N.S.E.S.!
