Book Excerpt

Never lose sight of what is important, the journey. Without the journey we are lost. We sit down and darkness encompasses us. It is the journey that makes us alive, but it is the wonder and appreciation of that journey that makes us realize we are alive.

Chapter 1 - The Journey Begins
If we teach our children that they are not "normal" if they step outside the lines, we will effectively hamper their ability to live life to the fullest and cause them to always question everything they do in light of society's expectations. We will cut the world off from future musicians, artists, writers, and every other creative genius. We will be robbing ourselves by robbing our children of the ability to be themselves.

Chapter 2 - No Need for Directions
These are the people that you see sacrificing themselves for the sake of everyone else in their lives. They may be exhausted mentally, physically, or emotionally but if there is a need that arises in the lives of those around them they are the first to put their own interests and needs on the back burner in order to provide for others. They will sacrifice many things in order to maintain their desire to always be strong, to show no need of anything, to prove they can give without exhausting their resources. What they don't seem to realize is that while they are sacrificing for everyone, eventually everything in their own lives is compromised.

Chapter 3 - Detours
Detours change us. They take us off track to teach us lessons we need in order to journey onward. They lead us to places we never wanted to go but eventually bring us back to the road we must be on to continue our journey. Detours are inevitable and they are necessary. Timing is everything. If the road before you is under construction then you must follow the path that allows you to move forward, no matter how far out of the way it seems. These construction zones of life will cause you to react. You may feel great joy or great pain as you travel through them, but you will not travel through untouched.

Chapter 4 - Road Signs and Traffic Signals
Tragic and intense circumstances will do one of two things; they will either strengthen or weaken your faith in what you hold most dear about life. Every day you wake, you choose to live or to die. Some of us choose to die as we live, while others of us choose to live as we die.

Chapter 5 - You Are Not Alone
Great bonds are not reserved only for the best of friends. Sometimes, they are reserved for the best of strangers. You may be feeling crushed by the circumstances and detours in your life. You may be thinking that the best thing you can do is to abandon your journey. My friend let me tell you from experience, you are never alone.

Chapter 6 - Final Destinations
Our legacies are not made years at a time. Our legacies are made one day, one moment, at a time. We have final destinations in every stage of our lives. Every trial, every dream, every goal has a final destination. True greatness is not a result of the things you do but of the things you are. Every great thing that has ever been accomplished has been born in the greatness of a soul.
