About the Author

Marilyn Rhodes Fischer

Marilyn Rhodes Fischer was born on December 16, 1945 in Hillsboro, Kansas. She enjoyed writing poetry as a young child and after taking a correspondence course while living in South Dakota, she knew she wanted to write. During the early 90s, she attended Dodge City (Kansas) Community College majoring in journalism, working on the school newspaper as a reporter and assisting in the publishing of two poetry books in her journalism class.

Marilyn went on to become editor of the Bucklin (Kansas ) Banner newspaper. Two years later she published her first book, The Cowboy and the Lady, which chronicled the history of her father’s childhood on the Rhodes’ Ranch near Durham, Kansas. Other books written by Marilyn are The Creek Still Runs, the history of the Pine Creek Mill in Muscatine, Iowa, which was built by her husband Jim’s great-great-grandfather, Benjamin Nye, around 1848. Her next book, Thy Rocks and Rills, is the history of Scott Lake State Park and surrounding area, near Scott City, Kansas.

Marilyn currently resides in Scott City, Kansas with her husband Jim. She is a Food Service Supervisor for Camp Lakeside, a church camp located on the banks of Scott Lake. In addition to writing, she enjoys spending time with her six grandkids and two cats; baking, calligraphy and church activities.
