Al Santini has been sailing for over 45 years and owns Off the Wind, the very capable 2007 Com Pac Eclipse made in Clearwater, Florida that is featured in this book. Al has been writing since 1984 and has authored automotive electronics textbooks. On the fiction side, he is the author of Alone in the Gulf of Mexico, Back to the Gulf of Mexico, and this book, Captain Pete and the Dry Tortugas. He is a retired automotive teacher having taught for 35 years. Much of this book is placed in SW Florida including the Dry Tortugas, Key West, and maybe even Cuba. Al has sailed SW Florida for 19 years. Al is married to Carol and together they have 2 children with spouses and 4 grandchildren.

This fictional story begins in Illinois where Federal Agents propose a rescue mission for Captain Pete and the sailboat, Off the Wind. The story moves to SW Florida with extensive sailing to the Dry Tortugas and a side trip to Cuba. The story continues with the legal battle with the FBI, Homeland Security and even a Presidential Commission. Along the way there is sailing through storms, waves, and wind with an occasional twist. The continuing interaction between Captain Pete and the Federal Government makes this an enjoyable, yet totally believable read. The story is fiction and any reference to politicians currently in office is coincidental.
