Book Details

This is what I consider to be the missing story about Captain Ahab. It will take you from the time of his birth to the first mention of his name in Herman Melville’s novel ‘Moby Dick’. This story will explain to you, the people and events that shaped the man into that figure you see in Herman Melville’s novel. From himself and the description of himself by others, you will understand who he is, and why he is that way. You will experience his drive and determination, his aspirations and his shortcomings, his hopes and his fears. You will witness first hand his leadership in all matters and the obstacles that he had to overcome in his life to get to the point of being captain on the Pequod, along with the price he had to pay throughout his life, to achieve such a position. You will be taken whaling at a time when it was man, pitted against the largest adversary ever placed on the earth. Experience the thrills and consequences of a lifestyle long past, along with the joys and tragedy of a time gone by. Live out life and death on the high seas; on the other side of the world; where the only things you have to rely on, were each other, the wisdom of the men in charge that have gone before you, and God. Ultimately witness that battle between Captain Ahab and his nemesis Moby Dick. See how they scar each other to the core of their soul, and why neither one of then will let it go. The story will leave you at the very start of that great American novel, ‘Moby Dick’. Hopefully for you it will answer all the lingering questions about just who was Captain Ahab, and what transpired in his life that made him that revengeful, compulsive madman you find in Herman Melville’s novel. No one could ever do justice to the legacy left behind by Herman Melville, and I have no illusions that I have done so. I just saw fit to shed some light on the unanswered questions that remained over the last two hundred or so years. Respectfully David Miceli

About the Author

David Miceli

I was born in Pennsylvania, in a small mining town, the tenth of eleven siblings. It was very much a working class environment. I grew up in Brooklyn New York, where I attended a parochial grammar school, and public high school. After high school I was drafted into the Army at the end of the Vietnam War. When my service ended in the Army I moved to live in Connecticut where I worked at various manufacturing jobs until I decided to make use of the GI bill and go back to school. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Central Connecticut State College in 1978. I taught high school in Connecticut for some years before pursuing other opportunities again in manufacturing. After marrying my second wife it was decided that we have had enough of the long cold winters and relocated to Florida in 1988. Here I worked in positions of supervision, and engineering, until retiring a short while ago. While working as an engineer in 2006, I decided after a long thought process that I would start writing a book that was of interest to me. This would end up being that book. This was not the first book I started but it was the first that I saw fit to complete. While finalizing the writing of this book on Captain Ahab, I happened across the idea for my first published book, ‘Night Terrors’ which was published late in the year 2018. As it stands now, other works are likely to follow and those would include a sequel to Night Terrors – Night With No End! and a conclusion to the trilogy, Night Terrors – Just Try And Wake Up! I am also entertaining two other novels but only time will tell if they will come to pass. I envision my writings as a solitary passion. I do not see myself as a writer but more so as a storyteller. I am hopeful that you will enjoy reading my books as much as I have enjoyed writing them.
