About the Author

Chef David Vincent Young

David Vincent Young is a Native Hilton Head Islander. His family has lived in the Low Country for over 175 years. In the pages of this book you will find the recipes to Fine Low Country Cuisine, such as, Red Rice, Collard Greens, Shrimp Gumbo, Stewed Tomato and Okra, Chef David Youngs' signature Sweet Potato Cornbread and other Native Island Treats. Chef David V. Young was raised by his Great Grand Mother Mary Cohen. She was born in 1900 and died in 1985. When she was 77 she began to teach young David to care and cook for himself at the age of six. She prayed everyday and night that he would grow up strong, keep himself out of trouble and go off to college. She knew that when she died, David would be alone in the world and have to fend for himself. She stressed the value of an education especially reading, writing and arithmetic. All of those life lessons taught to David by his Great Grand Mother have culminated in the pages of BURNIN' DOWN SOUTH. www.roastfishandcornbread.com
