Book Details

Cam and Alex are about 8 and 3, and come to Grandmama's house 2-4 times per week, depending on Mommy and Daddy's work schedules. Grandmama is their large playmate that shares slightly different ways to do things as well as little tidbits of knowledge and advice throughout each time together. This book represents a typical visit with Grandmama.
I never thought this would be me, but the years are full of surprises. Babysitting my grandchildren has become the single most delightful part of each week. For eight years now, they have filled my life with their enthusiasms, joys, and growing pains while allowing me to continue with my own. There is no day that is the same, yet there is always comfort in the familiar things we do; we know each other.

Book Excerpt

"My name is Cam. I'm almost 8. My sister is Alex. She's 3. Mommy and Daddy work most evenings, so we come to Grandmama's house. My mommy calls her "the Crazy Lady", but I don't know why. She seems fine to me."

About the Author

Jewell Welchlin

I was born in southern Minnesota, but spent the first 20 years in the midwestern states of Minnesota, Missouri, and Ohio, as we followed my father's dreams. From there on, it was Texas, Arizona, and finally southern California. I was a "late bloomer" so completed college in my mid-thirties with two small children. After graduating from UCR, I began teaching K and 2nd grade in Temecula, where I have enjoyed 25+ years of teaching. During that time, I earned my Master's Degree in Education. Another lifetime interest is music in which I have offered an afterschool chorus (at my school) called Triple J Chorus, of which my mother was my accompanist and inspiration. In these last years, I have become “Grandmama” to three beautiful grandchildren, ages 2, 3, and 8. Cam and Alex are here close to me, and I travel to Texas to visit with Kerra, age 2. Life is good!
