When Israeli Army Lieutenant Doron ben Avrahim, a U.S. citizen with dual citizenship, travels to Israel to fight terrorists to avenge the death of his parents, he is captured in Iran near the shores of the Caspian Sea. While he is held prisoner, lightning strikes the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem, something that’s never occurred before. A storm follows, one that frees Doron from his prison, and the lieutenant—along with Nadina, a traumatized eight-year-old Iranian girl—is taken to safety by an Israeli helicopter. The U.S. military debate: Who or what has directed this storm: Israel or God? Doron assumes Nadina’s parents are dead and he and his fiancée decide to raise her, hoping to bring the girl out of the autistic-like state caused by her painful past. But Nadina’s mother is alive and intent on rescuing her, as two cousins are secretly plotting to murder the “defiled” girl who’s lived in the home of an Israeli. They all share one desire in common: to kill the Israeli Army Lieutenant. Set in the near future, A Divine Wind takes on a largely unexplored subject as Israel attempts to use “weather control” and neuroscience technology to deal with an increasingly bellicose Iran, whose actions are seemingly, inexorably heading the world towards Armageddon. A cyborg, mental telepathic communication, how to tame and turn a tornado; just some of the visionary science to feast on, flavored with a sprinkling of Kabbalah, Jewish mystical wisdom. A seat at the table has been set, awaiting you to dine within the pages of A Divine Wind.

Topics for Discussion

1. Iran has threatened to destroy Israel when and if it develops nuclear weapons. Will Israel find some unexpected way to deal with Iran and prevent this? Some people posit a “black swan” event, meaning something unexpected. In “A Divine Wind,” this is weather control technology. Do you believe Israel will do something before Iran develops a nuclear weapon and how?

2. What will occur if Iran develops a nuclear weapon? Will the world do anything to assist Israel?

3. Will human civilization make it to the stars?

4. Will future technology permit mental telepathic communication as posited in the novel?

5. Will future technology allow the creation of “A Manchurian Candidate” controlled by another country?

6. Will it one day be possible to control hurricanes and tornadoes, preventing their devastation?

7. What advances in science, medicine and engineering have been predicted in fiction before becoming a reality?

8. Nadina, an innocent Iranian child, can be considered crucial for helping Israel deal with Iran and ultimately saving the world from Armageddon. How did the shared love of a child between an Iranian terrorist and Israeli army lieutenant save the world?

9. “A Divine Wind” envisions new Israeli weather control companies and describes the science and technology used to create them. It also envisions a United States technology program, similar to NASA, created to aid in a national weather control program to prevent storms and tornadoes from destroying cities such as New Orleans.
Are there current day entrepreneurs, such as Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates adventurous and visionary enough to take up this challenge? Should the U.S. do it as a national priority? Is current technology capable of achieving this in a ten year time frame, analogous to the Apollo Project?

10. Einstein once said: “If an idea at first does not seem impossible, there is no hope for it?”
Can you recognize examples of such thinking in “A Divine Wind”?

11. There are extremists who try to rewrite history and deny the Holocaust even occurred.

How is this dealt with in “A Divine Wind”? Is there symbolism in the yellow butterflies placed in the far distant future in a far away planet, described in a child’s poem written in a Nazi concentration camp, keeping the child’s words and memory alive a thousand years in the future, while the Nazi perpetrators and their memory has long since died out?

12. The second storm that frees Doron and Saron near the end of the novel was not accomplished by Israeli intelligence. How this occurred is left to each reader to imagine. What does this signify in the novel? What do you believe occurred in the novel? Will God “awake from a deep slumber” to deal with the seemingly impossible and ever worsening situation in the Middle East?
