The year is 1962, a much simpler time, and the Brown family is planning an adventure. When they leave their mountain home in Colorado for a road trip to Nana and Papa’s in Texas, the children— Sarah, Rosie, and little Rob—can’t wait to see their grandparents’ newest addition to the farm: Rhode Island Red chickens! Along the way, the Browns travel from mountain to desert, through cities and forests, experiencing many new sights. At one rest stop, they meet a kind soul named Mr. Joe, with his white horses and fancy carriage. When they finally arrive at Nana and Papa’s farm, the children can hardly wait to see the Rhode Island Reds. But what they don’t expect is a chicken catastrophe!
