Book Details

Robert Maurice Ingle, Florida state government’s first biologist hired to study the vast array of saltwater species, stands as a pivotal figure in the state’s history. A staunch advocate of the scientific method—hypothesis, research, replication, and conclusion—he was quick to denounce any research that drew conclusions before thoroughly following the proper scientific steps.

Ingle’s memoir offers an engaging exploration of lesser-known aspects of Florida’s history, making it difficult to put down. He was fortunate to work alongside some of the most dedicated marine scientists in the country. His legacy lives on through the scientists he mentored and the groundbreaking research he championed.

This is the story of a passionate man, deeply committed to both his work and his family, whose leadership shaped our understanding and management of Florida’s marine resources.
—Bob Jones
