Book Details

This is a story which encompasses the beginnings of what we now know as modern medicine. This emergence occurred in Vienna, Austria in the mid-nineteenth century. It was then and there that the oft quoted acknowledgement of a famous physician came to light when he said, “We have finally reached a point of having some effective therapies within our medical armamentarium. What we had up to now went all the way back to the days of Galen. In the past we could give a disease a name, describe its natural course and predict its eventual outcome. It was rare indeed, that we had an effective remedy to alter or stop the usual dire consequences of diseases. At present we seem to have several remedies for several disease entities that are often effective. It is no doubt the will of G-d that we continue along this pathway of experiment and discovery.”
