Book Details

Who better to tell the story of Walter and Eleanor Gillen than two of the couple’s eight children—Virginia Poole and Sherry Belmonte—who take the reader through four generations in this family biography, where love is a four-letter word and no skeletons have been found in their closets. And almost every one of the siblings participated in the book’s creation. The memoir unfolds with Walter’s and Eleanor’s childhoods in the early 1900s and then examines the many challenges of raising a large family, concluding with the family’s emigration from Germany. Replete with tales, trials, and tribulations, The Walter and Eleanor Gillen Story focuses on Midwestern lifestyles and family values.
