About the writer: R Richard Williams “The Other F Word” is Williams’ first novel. “It’s about surviving – against nearly impossible odds. I also want to make sure that gay men have a voice in the “#me too” movement. It happened to us, too.” A writer most of his life, Williams started off at Cinefantastique, a science-fiction, fantasy, and horror magazine, based in Oak Park, Illinois. An associate editor and occasional film critic, Rich edited articles about directors, writers and actors before they became famous. “A highlight was working on an article about the making of ‘Evil Dead,’” he said. “We interviewed Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell when they just started the film business.” Raimi went on to direct and produce the original “Spider Man” trilogy and “Oz the Great and Powerful,” among others, while Campbell acted in scores of films and television series. After Cinefantastique, he spearheaded marketing programs for a number of household brands, including Flintstones Vitamins, initiating “Should Betty Be a Vitamin?” a grassroots program for character Betty Rubble. “All the characters had a Flintstones Vitamin, except Betty Rubble. No one knew why. We thought it was a shocking omission. So, we created a tongue-in-cheek, prehistoric voting booth and went coast-to coast asking Americans to support Betty. She won in a landslide and was added to the mix.” Williams is working on his second novel, “Neurosex,” a gay, science fiction novel that addresses peculiar superpowers and mind-blowing sex, due out in 2019.
