Illinois carer publishes stunning new novel
Sleepless nights and a curiosity for a bible story have led to an Illinois carer publishing her first book. Teresa Cockrell’s stunning debut novel, Lazarus, has received a five-star welcome from readers across the country since its recent publication. The 43-year-old admits her passion for picking up the pen came from childhood sleepovers with her cousin.
Teresa said: “I have so many people that have inspired me to write, but one person really stands out for me and that is my cousin Tonya Kennedy.
“From the time we were young girls she always wanted to hear my stories and she always encouraged me to write them down.
“She would wake me up in the middle of the night to hear one of my stories, or she would always try to find a quiet time to listen to one.”
Lazarus tells the story of a love triangle set in the heart of a small American town.
Falling in love with the pastor’s daughter spells trouble for handsome hunk Lazarus in this resonating romance.
But Teresa’s gripping story is also packed with punch as jealousy and betrayal bring a shadow over the tranquil town.
The personal support worker, who has been married for 21 years, drew some inspiration for her narrative from a story she encountered in the New Testament.
Teresa added: “I got my idea from the Bible, Luke 16: 19-31.
“I read the story about Lazarus and the rich man and I was saddened by the treatment of Lazarus. I wondered what kind of life he had. If he once had a family? He had nothing in the end but his faith. But truthfully that’s all you really need, I thought."
“This inspired me to write a modern-day love story of a hardworking man name Lazarus who ended up with the same faith as his Biblical namesake.”
Since the release of Lazarus by PublishNation it has earned nothing but five-star reader review.
Barbara Gilmore stated: “This book made me happy, sad, angry and excited all at the same time.
“I loved this read, it kept wanting to learn more about the characters so much so, that I didn't want to put the book down.”
Since the successful release of Lazarus, Teresa has been putting the finishing touches to her second novel, The Therapist.
