He is a “pocho” who gets his primary education from the streets of Boyle Heights. His life is controlled by the elements surrounding the haven of State Street Playground. Enjoy the various aspects of growing up in the ‘50s and ‘60s for a first generation Mexican American boy as he gets his secondary education from the public educational system in Los Angeles. Follow his growth through elementary schools, junior high, and the turmoil accompanying the “Blow Outs/Walk Outs” of 1968 at Roosevelt High School.

Leopoldo Castro

Leopoldo Castro was born and raised in Boyle Heights during the ‘50s and ‘60s. He still claims State Street as his home. He is a retired Physical Education Instructor who taught in Los Angeles for 40 years. His new home is in Clovis, California, where he resides with his wife, Christine, of 45 years.
