Two second grade boys said the ‘N’ word at the lunch tables. What will their Black teacher, Mrs. Brown, do?

Mrs. Brown, a 2nd grade teacher, just sat down to enjoy her lunch, when her door flew open with students shouting that two boys from her class said the ‘N’ word. What will the teacher, Mrs. Brown, do about it? Did the boys really say this word when their teacher is a Black teacher? What will happen to the boys? Or will the teacher help them to understand why we do not say the ‘N’ word?

Danner Barrett-Jantzer grew up on the beautiful island of Jamaica. She is the youngest of eight children and she remembers when she was in elementary school, always playing with her mom’s lotions and perfumes, pretending that she was the teacher and that the bottles were the students. She remembers always wanting to be a teacher, and now she feels blessed and lucky to have a career as an educator. Danner has been teaching within the same school district for over 20 years and is the only Black teacher at her school. She is passionate about helping her students to grow and to realize that even a young child can help to positively change the world by understanding why we do not say the ‘N’ word. Her hobbies are reading and dancing, and she enjoys spending time with her lovely family in beautiful Leucadia, California.
