Jeffrey E. Brown: I have spent 25 years working in the Utility Industry. I began, as most do, in the distribution system and worked my way up to transmission. I saw an opportunity to move into our Support Group and began writing procedures and test plans. From there, I chose to specialize in the Power Line Carrier side of the business. Before long I was chosen to lead a small group that covered the state and handled all construction and maintenance on the pilot systems. This included fiber, tone, microwave, and of course power line carrier. I’ve worked 100’s of construction and maintenance jobs. I’ve handled many more troubles. I’ve worked with the latest test sets and radio equipment. I’m your subject matter expert. Thanks, and enjoy the book!

Power Line Carriers – Simplified Will Make You the Expert!
The Main Purpose of Power Line Carrier is to give you instantaneous tripping for 100% of the line. Without Power Line Carrier, your protection would not coordinate and transmission lines would be tripping incorrectly all across your system. I have heard time and time again, that the future is fiber and Power Line Carrier is a thing of the past. Until the day the cost of fiber per mile becomes economical, Power Line Carrier is here to stay. In this book, you will learn the basics behind the carrier schemes. The goals are to become familiar with the schemes and how to implement and maintain them. You will learn how to identify and avoid many common problems associated with each type of scheme. You will learn what to do, and what not to do. You will become the Carrier Expert. When I graduated from Georgia Tech and began my career, I was starving for a source of information that would allow me to supplement my OJT. This book is dedicated to all those engineers who went looking for a source to better themselves. Good luck, and one day share what you have learned.
